Carolina Cherry Laurel is an dense native evergreen shrub to small tree with aromatic smooth green foliage. Packed panicle clusters of fragrant white flowers bloom in late winter to early spring and are followed by small drupes that ripen to black by fall. Flowers best in full sun and rich moist well-drained soils. Very drought tolerant once established.
Prunus caroliniana is a host plant for several butterflies: Coral Hairstreak, Red-spotted Purple, Spring/Summer Azures, Viceroy butterflies. and the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. The fruits are highly attractive to birds and small mammals.
