Foliage: Dense; Brick-red Fall color; deciduous; alternate, elliptic, 10 - 25 cm long & 8 - 15 cm wide; dull green above & light dull green underside; Fall color - yellow-brown to russet red & bright red Light: Full sun
Bark:  Dark gray or black; shallowly furrowed into broad hard scaly ridges, inner bark red to pink Pruning:
  Uses: Shade tree; landscape tree; needs sufficient space to grow; tolerant of urban conditions; important source of hardwood lumber.
