Form / Shape: Irregular, upright, rounded, vase-shaped Drought Tolerance: High
Flower / Fruit: Lavender-purple or pink; blooms in early Spring before leaves emerge Soil: Well drained, moist, fertile, humus rich, well-limed, sandy, clay or loam soil; not tolerant of water-logged soil, short duration flooding or compacted soil
Foliage: Alternate, simple, entire, broad-ovate to heart shaped, medium to dark green leaves Light: Partial shade to full sun; flowers best in full sun
Bark:  Smooth, thin, brownish-gray to black bark Pruning: For stronger structure, to remove hanging limbs, to reduce spread, to thin out over crowding and shading
  Uses: Specimen, native look areas
